i would not consider smarty to keep all logic from the designer, well unless
you put html in some variables and display just the variables in smarty
templates. Smarty templates have the ability to have conditional and loop
statments so that your backend can just pass an array and the template will
display it however the designer wished. In a sense it is seperation but not
totally.

Your programmer will have to do the templates if your designer has no idea
about loops/conditionals etc..
